In 1994, Nicole Cohen worked in New York City designing retailer window displays, after which she moved to Los Angeles to work as a set designer and stylist for television. The focus in her art shifted from painting to video installation super-imposing performers into vintage, still, interior spaces from design magazines.

In 2001, her first live video performance work was shown at the Los Angeles County Museum followed by a museum exhibition at Williams College Museum of Art, as well as a commissioned exhibition at the J. Paul Getty Museum (2007-2009.) Then, she moved to Berlin, directed hip-hop music videos and worked in her studio. Currently, she works as an artist in NYC.
